Le Region
Sablet is surrounded by wonderful places to visit, beautiful views, roman ruins and wonderful restaurants some all in the same place. We have been going regularly now since we bought our home in 2007 and we are still finding new places. The following are just a few that we have found memorable :
Vaison La Romaine
Vaison is only 12 Kms away - a few minutes by car or you can ride a bike or even walk through the Dentelles to get there. As the name would suggest an old roman settlement with bridges that date back to that time as well as really well preserved excavated township including part of the colliseum. tours of the museum include audio guides, well worth the visit.
Great market on Tuesdays
Good shopping all week round and some very pleasant restaurants overlooking the town square and the river
L'isle sur la Sorge
A delightful village about 40 minutes drive from Sablet on the Sorge river with little tributaries running all through the town.
A wonderful market on Sundays. It is so nice to sit in one of the outdoor restaurants by the river and have lunch after all the marketing is done. The antique section of the market is world famous and the cathedral quite impressive.

Fontaine de Vaucluse
only a few Kms from L'isle sur la Sorge and is the source of the Sorge river which flows out from the mountains. A lovely village, great place to have lunch and the shopping is good, especially on Sundays, although it can be a bit busy at the height of the season.

Gordes
Famouse village perched on the top of the hill overlooking the valley below. Spectacular cathedral and just outside the Village de Bories - really ancient dry stone buildings from way back.
Roussillon
Roussillon built its reputation on ochre. Created in the 18th by Jean Astier, the ochre industry made the valley wealthy for several decades. Nowadays, ochre offers visitors the infinite delicacy of its many colours at the corner of each street.
